Ron Morel Memorial Museum

The Ron Morel Memorial Museum stands as a testament to the enduring vision of its founder, the late Ron Morel Sr. Inaugurated in 1971, this remarkable museum beautifully melds two of Morel's lifelong passions - the rich tapestry of local history and the awe-inspiring world of trains.

What’s Inside

For visitors of all ages and backgrounds, the museum promises a captivating experience that unravels the layers of Kapuskasing's intriguing past. With seasonal exhibits thoughtfully curated to delve into various facets of Kapuskasing's history, every visit to the museum is an opportunity to explore the town's captivating narrative.

As you walk through the museum, you'll find yourself surrounded by old photographs and artifacts, each whispering tales of yesteryear. One of the big highlights is the exhibit on the Internment/Prisoner of War Camp of World War I, offering a poignant window into the town's involvement in a global conflict.

The museum is a haven for railway enthusiasts, housing a vast collection of railway memorabilia that showcases the pivotal role of trains in shaping Kapuskasing's identity. A meticulously crafted model train display adds a touch of nostalgia, igniting the imaginations of both the young and young-at-heart.

Maurice Gaudreault’s “I Remember Still…” Collection

Maurice Gaudreault’s collection, "I Remember Still," features 37 captivating sculptures crafted in just 10 months. Gaudreault, a master storyteller, chose clay over words to depict the lives of the region's pioneers. His work, inspired by French-Canadian illustrators, portrays the rugged daily existence in northern Ontario's unforgiving landscape. Each sculpture in this striking exhibit weaves a rich narrative, celebrating the resilience and spirit of the men and women who braved this wintry frontier. This unique artistic expression adds a profound dimension to the museum's historical journey.

Historic Self-Guided Tour

For those eager to embark on a journey through Kapuskasing's storied streets, the museum offers a Historic Kapuskasing Walking Tour booklet, guiding you through the town's most intriguing landmarks.

Gift Shop

Before concluding your visit, don't forget to explore the charming on-site gift shop, where you can acquire unique souvenirs and keepsakes, allowing you to carry a piece of Kapuskasing with you wherever you go.
